Washing Your Bowling Ball?
Yeah, I’m skeptical too about this bowling tip! There are many bowling ball cleaners, some clean deeper than others. But this is a new one on me.
Washing your bowling ball consists of using Dawn dish washing detergent and warm or hot water. The catch in this bowling tip is, you do not submerge your bowling ball in the dish water, unless the bowling balls holes can be sealed. Instead, you wash it off with dish water using a small dish towel, and be careful not to get any water in the bowling ball finger holes. Water in the bowling ball finger holes would be a major problem. A water logged bowling ball would throw off your core weight, ball reaction, and the total weight of the bowling ball. So, please be careful and protect the finger holes. Now some say, you can use electric or masking tape to cover the bowling ball holes, and then submerge the bowling ball for a while. In this way the oil and dirt will be drawn out of the bowling ball. Then after cleaning, use cold water to rinse off and dry with a clean towel. Let the bowling ball sit on a rack or well ventilated area to fully dry. But, I’m still wondering about reactive resin bowling balls retaining the sticky surface? So I would use bowling ball conditioner/cleaner after wards, to replace some of the natural sticky surface. Let me know how it works, or then again maybe I’ll try it next week after bowling season ends.
Oh, an after thought, how about using a bottle of Dawn mixed with water at the bowling alley, instead of bowling ball cleaner? After use, wipe clean with a damp towel? If it works, it would be a lot cheaper?
Post note: I tried the condensed form of Dawn in a spray bottle at the bowling alley last night. All you need is two or three sprays and a damp paper towel to wipe around the bowling ball, then wipe off with another damp towel, and dry off with a clean dry cloth towel. I would allow 10-15 minutes to fully dry. The bowling ball seem clean and worked as well as with the expense bowling ball cleaners. But it does take longer, so give yourself extra time, or do it at home before bowling. Remember to let me know what you think about this idea?
A third bowling tip method I just tried, rub Dawn on the bowling ball to just cover it in a thin layer. Then wet your fingers with water, and rub the Dawn into the bowling ball cover, not into the bowling ball holes. Suds it up, wipe the bowling ball off with a wet paper towel and finish with a dry towel. Now that bowling ball is clean! Try it out first, then if you what more stick use conditioner/cleaner. This does work, try it and you will be surprised.

Should I Buy a Bowling Ball Spinner?
Well, a good one will run up to the price of a new bowling ball, $200+. But if you want to clean, sand, smooth out, and resurface your bowling ball, it maybe a bargain. Now we are talking about someone who is really into bowling and wants a competitive edge. Having your bowling ball surface sanded or resurfaced professionally will cost. And in the long run, a good spinner will last a long time, time enough to get your money back, and save the cost of a few replacement bowling balls.
One bowling tip is, using a spinner can get sloppy with dust or cleaner flying around. So get a cheap plastic tub to put the spinner in for your work. In that way, all the dust and fluids stay in the tub. I know this idea isn’t for everyone. But if you want to experiment or keep up the surface of your bowling ball, instead of always buying a new one, you may want to reconsider the bowling ball spinners merits. Remember, sometimes the problem isn’t the bowling ball, but the way we take care them?
Bowling with Sunglasses?
Well if PDW can do it, I guess it is OK? Of course PDW is for Peter David Weber, who is third all-time with 35 career PBA Tour titles and second in career earnings behind Walter Ray Williams Jr.
These sunglasses offer: 100% UV Protection, polycarbonate lens, microfiber case included with each pair, ultralight & comfortable fit, improves sharpness and clarity, and includes PDW initial logo on the lens, of course. The PDW sunglasses come in black smoke and signature green.
But the bowling tip is; are they worth it, and will they help my bowling? Well, I tried my prescription sunglasses one time, which are polarized. I didn’t bowl very well, and my teammates let me know about it. The common saying was “I know PDW and you’re no PDW!”, which I already knew. But I bowled a lot of bad games without them this season, and no one said “Put the sunglasses back on?” With the joking around aside, the sunglasses did easy eye strain from glare of the lanes, and relaxed me during the Game. So, maybe I should try them again?
A Dexter Bowling Shoe Switches from Right to Left?
It’s called, universal bowling shoes? The Dexter bowling shoe can be switched from a right handed bowler, to a left handed bowler by just changing soles? So, if a bowler injured his or her right hand, they could start bowling left handed, without buying left handed bowling shoes? Well, I think, I like it. And of course, bowling shoe covers are included. A leather toe drag protector that stops slide sole peel back is a nice addition too.
This Dexter universal bowling shoe design is available for men, women, and youth bowlers. Matter a fact, Kelly Kulick, who won the PBA Tournament of Champions, was wearing the above bowling shoes. What will they think up next?
X Outs – X Blems: Good Discounted Bowling Balls?
If you are like me, I am always looking for a good discount bowling ball . Once you find a bowling ball you like, you start searching for a good deal. Now of course being off season, is one of the best times to buy a bowling ball, as mentioned in previous blogs. But, X-Outs and X-Blems are different. These bowling balls have a flaw or defect some where. This flaw will not affect the bowling ball’s performance, I am told. Now in the X-Comps, the Pin distance is in the 2-4” only range with the top weight 2-4 ounce range, and the X-Blems, X-Out or Seconds are out of this range.
X-Comps generally have a cosmetic blemish. The reaction of the ball will be the same as a 1st line quality ball.
A bowling ball is labeled an X-Blem, X-Out, or Second for any one of the following reasons: 1. color, 2. small pitting caused by air bubbles, 3. unique pin placement, top weight, or mass bias marking location, 4. labels are engraved in unusual places or may have the wrong logos, 5. swirl patterns of the ball are not consistent, 6. engravings such as the serial numbers, cg location markers or logos may be stamped on the ball more than once or in the wrong place. And in most cases, the flaw or defect information isn’t given. Therefore, buy at your own risk, and have a professional drill your bowling ball, so any performance flaws can be caught in time. Some dealers have the policy of all sales are final and no refunds too. So be careful, who you buy from.
I have bought X-Out bowling balls with some success. One bowling ball gave the driller a hard time, but finally, we compromised on a drilling pattern. The bowling tip is, a 1st Line discounted bowling ball is a better deal, than a few dollars cheaper, chance on a Second Line bowling ball. Good dealing, and make sure you know what you are buying.
Keep Your Bowling Supplies Organized.
My bowling ball bag has compartments for everything. But just like my locker, everything is laying all over. So I bought a small bag to organize my small bowling supplies, like powders, finger nail clippers, sandpaper, tape, NuSkin, bowling glove, rules book, cards, etc. So now, I grab my bowling balls, shoes, and bag out of my locker, then go to my lane. At least I’m organized, everything I need is with me.
Keeping your bowling supplies handy, makes bowling much easier to deal with. But one problem may a raise? Your friends find out your organized, they will come around to “borrow” your bowling supplies. Remember to keep track of your supplies and your friends, or replacement supplies maybe necessary?
Crazy Looking Plastic Bowling Balls.
You want to really mess up your friends? Get one of these eye catchers. Your friends will go nuts every time you use these plastic bowling balls. But these bowling balls may mess with your Game too? If you start watching the bowling ball, and not your mark, you may be in trouble.
Kids bowling balls can be used as a spare ball. But, maybe optical dizziness is another way to get the edge on your friends. Please, let me know if it works?
Storing Your Bowling Balls? | bowling gear
Well my bowling gear and bowling balls are sitting in a plastic tub right now with a lid on it. Which works in away, they are out of the way and protected from dust and moisture. So really, my method isn’t too bad? A couple of friends of mine, left their bowling balls in their bowling bags in the garage and the wet basement. Also, their bowling shoes were in with the bowling balls. Well, mildew and other fungus took over and covered both the bowling balls and shoes. What a mess.
This bowling tip may have merit, because I’m not sure which bowling balls I have left or the rest of my bowling gear? Remember, I have been giving several of them away to my friends, and I lost track of what is left. Maybe if I can see all the bowling balls at one time, I could better evaluate which ones to keep or use? Perhaps I’m a hoarder, like on TV the other night? Or, maybe I’m just not organized? But what ever system you use, don’t forget to keep your bowling gear clean and dry. Because, you may need to use it someday!

Bowling Tip: Bowling Handicapping?
What is handicapping? Handicapping is a way to even out the competition, when playing against lower or higher average bowlers. For example, a 160 bowler bowling against a 190 average bowler. Going heads up, the 160 bowler would be at a big disadvantage, but if a handicap of say, 90% of 220 is used for 56 pin handicap, the Game evens out. The formula is 220-160=60×90%=56 pin handicap, plus 160 average is 216. The 190 bowler is 220-190=30×90%=27 pin handicap, plus 190 average is 217. Now the 190 bowler, only has a 1 pin advantage.
Needlessly to say, the 190 bowlers don’t think much of it. That is why they try to lower it to 210@80%. So which ever formula you decide on, handicapping still equalize bowlers competition. So this bowling tip can help you and your friends to enjoy bowling more, even if you have different averages.
Buy Cheap Bowling Balls Now.
This is the off season and the best time to buy last season’s bowling balls. For example, Ebonite Mission bowling ball is listed $100+ off now. Kelly Kulick, first women to win Professional Bowlers Association Tournament, which was The Tournament of Champions 1-24-2010, made the Mission famous. She used the Mission bowling ball to power her way through 2009-2010 season.
So if your looking, it is a good time to buy for next season. Plus, ask your friends, if they bought a bowling ball last season, how did they like it? That way, you will have more input on which bowling ball to buy. I’m not pushing the Mission, even though it has received high ratings from users, but as a bowling tip, of the deals that are out there. Good dealing!
