Summer Cleaning for Fall Bowling Season? | bowling gear
If you are on a bowling league, the summertime is the off season for the majority of bowlers and their bowling gear. It’s like going to school, you’re off during the summer. So what do you do? Well some of my bowling buddies are golfing, motorcycling, boating at the lake, or on vacation. But if you’re a dedicated bowler, you’re thinking Fall League start up!
First you have to lay out your bowling strategy for the up coming season. Do you need a new custom bowling ball? How about a pair of new bowling shoes? Maybe a new wrist support or bowling glove? Then again, if you’re a early bird, be one of the first to order custom bowling shirts for the team? Or, find a bowling team sponsor?
What ever your bowling needs, this is the time to get organized. Check through your bowling gear, and see what can be repaired, cleaned, or replaced. For example, when was the last time you gave the bowling balls a really good cleaning? Or maybe you have a bowling ball in need of resurfacing or reconditioning. Check your finger grips or finger holes for excessive dirt build up, or needed repairs, like chips or cracks around the finger holes. How about your bowling shoes, need repairs, replacing, or just some polish? Don’t forget your bowling glove and wrist support, if they are in need of repairs or replacing? And, can the bowling shirts make it through one more season?
Why am I bring this up now? Well, you have time on your side, and this is bargain time for buying bowling gear. Bowling balls, bowling supplies, bowling bags, bowling shoes, and even bowling shirts are discounted during the off season. So, if you wanted to replace any of your bowling gear, now is the time to look around for deals. Because the prices will go up around the first of August, just in time for Fall Bowling League? Imagine that?
Graphicly Designed Bowling Balls-Worth It?
First, what are you going to use this custom bowling ball for? If you are a child starting out, this plastic bowling ball can be a good starter ball. If you are looking for a second bowling ball for spares, especially 7 or 10 pins, this ball would work. Plus the colorful graphics, adds color to your Game, and your buddies comments.
But my bowling tip is, how much is a custom colored bowling ball worth? Remember, any plastic bowling ball will do the job. So, what you are basically paying for? It is the graphic design. Therefore, the cost difference is, how important the graphic design is to you? If you want to make a statement, or have something different than the other bowlers? I can see justifying the cost difference, just like a different style bowling shirt than the other bowlers. If you are making a statement, just remember to pick a bowling ball, you can live with for awhile. After the novelty wears off, will you still respect it?
X Outs – X Blems: Good Discounted Bowling Balls?
If you are like me, I am always looking for a good discount bowling ball . Once you find a bowling ball you like, you start searching for a good deal. Now of course being off season, is one of the best times to buy a bowling ball, as mentioned in previous blogs. But, X-Outs and X-Blems are different. These bowling balls have a flaw or defect some where. This flaw will not affect the bowling ball’s performance, I am told. Now in the X-Comps, the Pin distance is in the 2-4” only range with the top weight 2-4 ounce range, and the X-Blems, X-Out or Seconds are out of this range.
X-Comps generally have a cosmetic blemish. The reaction of the ball will be the same as a 1st line quality ball.
A bowling ball is labeled an X-Blem, X-Out, or Second for any one of the following reasons: 1. color, 2. small pitting caused by air bubbles, 3. unique pin placement, top weight, or mass bias marking location, 4. labels are engraved in unusual places or may have the wrong logos, 5. swirl patterns of the ball are not consistent, 6. engravings such as the serial numbers, cg location markers or logos may be stamped on the ball more than once or in the wrong place. And in most cases, the flaw or defect information isn’t given. Therefore, buy at your own risk, and have a professional drill your bowling ball, so any performance flaws can be caught in time. Some dealers have the policy of all sales are final and no refunds too. So be careful, who you buy from.
I have bought X-Out bowling balls with some success. One bowling ball gave the driller a hard time, but finally, we compromised on a drilling pattern. The bowling tip is, a 1st Line discounted bowling ball is a better deal, than a few dollars cheaper, chance on a Second Line bowling ball. Good dealing, and make sure you know what you are buying.

You want to really mess up your friends? Get one of these eye catchers. Your friends will go nuts every time you use these plastic bowling balls. But these bowling balls may mess with your Game too? If you start watching the bowling ball, and not your mark, you may be in trouble.
Kids bowling balls can be used as a spare ball. But, maybe optical dizziness is another way to get the edge on your friends. Please, let me know if it works?

This is the off season and the best time to buy last season’s bowling balls. For example, Ebonite Mission bowling ball is listed $100+ off now. Kelly Kulick, first women to win Professional Bowlers Association Tournament, which was The Tournament of Champions 1-24-2010, made the Mission famous. She used the Mission bowling ball to power her way through 2009-2010 season.
So if your looking, it is a good time to buy for next season. Plus, ask your friends, if they bought a bowling ball last season, how did they like it? That way, you will have more input on which bowling ball to buy. I’m not pushing the Mission, even though it has received high ratings from users, but as a bowling tip, of the deals that are out there. Good dealing!
Custom Bowling Ball Improves Your Game!
Custom bowling balls are just that customized for you, with bowling ball reaction, and your hand pattern. Discount, and used bowling balls are cheap for kids and adults to use, but must be fitted properly. That is why, you should check out the drilling pattern to your hand, and figure the drilling or re-drilling cost into your total cost of the bowling ball. In this way, you will have your total cost of your bowling ball purchase.
The reason I mentioned this is, many bowling alleys and bowling pro shop include new bowling ball drilling for free. So, if you buy a used or discounted bowling ball without free drilling, a new bowling ball maybe cheaper, especially between February and June discounts that include free drilling. Maybe It’s Not Your Bowling Ball, It’s Your Bowling Gear?
I once played in a music group or Band. I mentioned to an associate that one of my Band members bought a new clarinet. He shot back at me, “Why, he didn’t learn how to play the old one yet!” Sometimes our bowling ball is that clarinet. Are we getting as much out of our bowling balls as we can? Lets see, by checking out your bowling gear!
Do you clean your bowling ball every time you use it? Are you rolling a good ball with lift on it for strikes? Are you hitting your marks? Are your finger holes drilled correctly for the best fit and control? Do you try different angles on your approach to maximize your strike conversions? Do you need and use a bowling glove or a wrist support? Have you tried to increase your rev. rate, as mentioned in the previous blog? Or maybe your bowling ball just ran out of gas, and needs reconditioning? Or maybe your tied of it and just want a newer model? These are all questions to ask, before you start your search for a new bowling ball. The reason I brought this up is, many of my friends have bowled for years, and they are starting to use their old bowling balls again. They are having success, better ball control, and consistent ball reaction too. So, before you go out and spend money on a new bowling ball, see what you have in storage now. New bowling balls are great, like a new car, but do you need it?
Buying Good Custom Bowling Balls Cheap.
Just remember like new car models, custom bowling balls follow a similar cycle. Usually February to June roughly is the best time to buy last seasons custom bowling balls. The best time to sell new bowling balls is a month or two before August bowling leagues start up. Bowlers will most likely buy then, if they have been thing about it. Also, they will have a new bowling ball to show their team and league members at the beginning of the season.
Even at discounted prices, last season’s custom bowling balls are still high quality. Plus these custom bowling balls now have some lane time under their belts. Professionals to league bowlers will probably have an opinion about these bowling balls, and how to custom drill them too. This on lane evaluation, is your best source of information, especially from fellow bowlers with similar bowling styles. Remember whether buying new or used bowling balls, you still have custom drilling. Figure in this cost with the bowling ball costs for your final deal. New ball drilling is usually cheaper, than a used bowling ball re-drilling and finger hole filling. So unless your hand fits the used bowling ball, there will be a cost and you need to know how much before you buy. Finally, be sure this custom bowling ball is right for you, and not just a good deal? A cheap bowling ball is only a good deal, if you can use it! Don’t be taken by a good deal, think it through, then buy. Good luck and good dealing.
Do Bowling Balls Crack?
Well if you leave your bowling balls outside, or in the trunk of your car during cold weather, you can see what can happens. Ideally, use a locker at the bowling alley or take your bowling balls home.
Hot weather can also cause damage to your bowling balls outer cover. So, clean your bowling balls after every use, and your bowling balls will last for years to come. Have fun bowling and take care of your bowling gear.
What to Do with Used Bowling Balls?
Well I must have given away over a dozen bowling balls by now, to friends starting to bowl. A couple, I should have kept! But the guys were new on the team and needed help. The old used bowling balls can come in handy, just for that reason. A beginner bowler doesn’t need a new bowling ball to learn with, as long as the bowling ball curves or hooks, and they can control it. Then they are very happy, because they can now hook the bowling ball. This means that the beginner bowler, can blend in with the more experienced bowlers. Several beginners have told me that making the bowling ball curve or hook was very important to them, and gave them a great feeling of accomplishment.
Now besides the above bowling tip, on what to do with your old used bowling balls, the second bowling tip is in questionable taste but unique?
