Buying A Custom Bowling Ball?
Buying a custom bowling ball is more complicated, than buying the old time hard rubber bowling ball. Today’s custom bowling balls have to fit your game and bowling style.
One of the best ways to select a custom bowling ball is to watch another bowler using the bowling ball. It is even better, if the bowler has a similar rev rate and ball speed. The reason is, higher rev rate and ball speed will have a different ball reaction, than a lower rev rate and ball speed. For example, many times a bowling ball you may have trouble with, an other bowler will have success with. Also, ask the bowler how the finger pattern is set up, so to get a similar reaction out of the bowling ball.
The second way is to use the custom bowling ball. May be your friend, Pro-Shop, or Demo Days Exposition will give you a chance to use the bowling ball? Even if the fingers don’t fit just right, you will see the bowling ball’s reaction to your bowling style. Once you see the ball’s reaction, you can decide if it is right for you, or if you can drill it to fit your needs.
Drilling, is what makes a bowling ball into a custom bowling ball. New bowling balls have 3 or more finger hole patterns to choose from. This ranges from going long, more or less hook, and even very aggressive bowling ball reactions. The person drilling your bowling ball is very important, in advising you on which finger pattern is best suited for you. Also, have a need to fill in your bowling ball arsenal, and in what situation the bowling ball will be used for. For example, oily or dry lanes, more or less hook, and which line you may want to play. By analyzing your needs, the person drilling the bowling ball can make the custom bowling ball you want.
Fourth custom bowling ball point is, check out the videos on the bowling ball, and read the stats, then analyze, if you can throw the same revs, speed, and line to control the bowling ball. Some bowling balls are a handful, and if you’re not bowler enough to control it, it will probably just sit in the bowling bag. A waste of your bowling ball money. This is the most risky bowling ball purchase, because you haven’t tried the bowling ball, or seen anyone use it, except in the videos. That is why new bowling balls are marketed so heavy, the manufacturers knows if someone buys and uses the bowling ball, others will see it, may be try it, and want to buy it too. If no one on the league or in the house has the bowling ball, sales will suffer.
So buy the right bowling ball for your Game, and customize it to your needs. A custom bowling ball is only as good as the bowler behind it, or the one that drilled it?
GHTime Code(s): 37c70How Large Is Ebonite International? | custom bowling balls
Ebonite custom bowling balls have been very popular lately. The Misson custom bowling ball was used by Kelly Kulick in the PBA Tournament of Champions, to become the first woman to win a PBA Tour event. Kelly also won the 2009 PBA Women’s World Championship, and PBA Women’s Series Shark Championship. So Kelly had a very successful 2009-2010 season. Also on board representing Ebonite with Kelly, are PBA Tour Members Tommy Jones, who won the DyDo Japan Cup, and Jason Couch, who owns 15 PBA Tour titles.
But as far as custom bowling balls, Ebonite International could be called the
gorilla of the bowling ball industry? Besides Ebonite custom bowling balls, there are few other custom bowling ball manufacturers you may recognize? How about Hammer Bowling? How about Columbia 300 or Track? Or, Dyno-Thane custom bowling balls, which are made for overseas now. Then there is Robby’s bowling accessories, as well as, Power House bowling ball cleaners and Pro Shop equipment? Plus Vantech specializing in bowling center equipment like scoring systems, furniture, ball returns, and bowling center total design concepts. So you can see Ebonite International casts a big shadow on the custom bowling ball industry, but is also into bowling centers design concepts and equipment.
Ebonite International Inc. is a parent company that oversees the manufacture of bowling balls and bowling equipment. Their headquarters and primary manufacturing facility is located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The technology and competition between all of these custom bowling ball manufacturer divisions must be very interesting. Like GM with Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Cadillac, and GMC Trucks, but with Ebonite International, it would be Ebonite, Hammer, Columbia 300, and Track. I wonder, if they can keep a secret in their own Department? How about the custom bowling ball Department next to you? So far, the Departments must be on different tracks, because the customers are still product loyal. But so were the customers of Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and what ever happened to Hummer and Saturn? Keeping the custom bowling balls unique and different has to be Ebonite International’s main concern. Because, if the custom bowling balls come out similar, Ebonite International would probably lose market share and customer loyalty, too. So I guess Ebonite’s International’s key to success is, to keep it different, but competitive?
Why Do I Leave The 5 Pin? | bowling tip
This is an interesting bowling tip, that has many sides. First of all, you roll a perfect strike ball and get a 5 pin remaining? What is up with that? I can’t throw it any better! Yes, I hear this every year during Fall Leagues. So, what is going on here?
Remember this bowling tip saying, “No Drive, No Five!”. I hope this sticks in your bowling brain! What this means is, if your bowling ball isn’t driving into the pocket, like crashing it, you will leave the 5 pin. A “weak ball” or weak pocket entry, will cause the bowling ball to glance off of the head pin or 1 pin, and not hit the 5 pin. There are two causes of this tragedy. One is you, and the other is your bowling gear.
If this bowling tip problem is you, then the first culprit is your lift. At release, a upward motion with your hand gives your bowling ball lift or rotation. This will give the bowling ball more drive into the pocket. Second, are you throwing the bowling ball too fast for lane conditions? Remember if the lanes are oily, especially the first game, slow down your speed, so the bowling ball can grip the lanes better. Third, check your pocket angle, as compared to the reaction of your bowling ball. If your angle is too tight, or your bowling ball hasn’t flipped or hooked yet into the pocket, the bowling ball doesn’t have enough room to power up. Either move more to the right of your mark to give more room, or move your approach to the right for a more outside angle, again if you are right handed.
Now if the bowling tip problem is your bowling gear, check and see what you have available. If your bowling ball can’t grip on oily lanes, use a bowling ball that is for oily, or medium to oily lanes. If you don’t have one, then use a sanded bowling ball (like a reactive resin or urethane and do not sand a plastic), which works like new treads on a tire. Secondly, if you can’t lift the bowling ball, it is either too heavy for you, or you need to use a wrist support to strengthen your wrist action.
Watch your bowling ball’s reaction, to see if the drive and the power is there! If not, this bowling tip will give you a check list of what to do. Know your self and your bowling gear, then adjust to the Game. It’s fun, when you know what you are doing?
What is a Cheap Bowling Ball? | bowling tip
The bowling tip is, a cheap bowling ball is one that is on sale, or discounted? Does it make any difference, if it’s the right bowling ball for you? Then again, there are cheap and discounted bowling balls available, but why are they discounted? Now, here’s a bowling tip to consider?
The older models from years past? Not always cheap, but discounted to $100 to $150 from $180 to over $200. Now the bowling balls that aren’t selling, are cheaper, but do you want them? Well that is your only choice, or is it?
The second bowling tip is to buy a used bowling ball. But then, there is the expense of fitting the bowling ball to your hand, and taking the chance that the bowling ball will work for you. I mentioned this evaluation process in an earlier blog.
Third bowling tip is, also mentioned in an earlier blog, you can resurface or recondition the old bowling ball? This can be a cheaper way, than buying another bowling ball. Resurfacing will depend on who does it. A professional or quality job will cost, and that will vary depending where you live. The surface or cover stock is sanded down evenly, and returned back to the original surface. Now reconditioning, drags the oil and dirt residue out of the bowling ball’s cover stock, that just cleaning can’t touch. Sanding is not done, so if the surface is rough, it will remain rough. One of the products available is Hook Again, a granular. Works in 24 hours to bring back as much as 99.8% performance.
Now the Pro Shops usually recommend one of these two procedures after 60 to 90 games, which is less than one season on a bowling league, counting practices. The average bowler does not do this, they toss the old ball for a new one, and call it dead or burned out. But, if the bowling ball only needs resurfacing or reconditioning, it is much cheaper than a new, or even, a discounted bowling ball. Plus, you don’t have to break in a new bowling ball, and wonder how it will react. Also, you don’t have to worry about making a bad choice, and the expensive gamble of buying another bowling ball? Just remember, if your bowling ball worked for you before, then may be all it needs is rejuvenation?
Summer Cleaning for Fall Bowling Season? | bowling gear
If you are on a bowling league, the summertime is the off season for the majority of bowlers and their bowling gear. It’s like going to school, you’re off during the summer. So what do you do? Well some of my bowling buddies are golfing, motorcycling, boating at the lake, or on vacation. But if you’re a dedicated bowler, you’re thinking Fall League start up!
First you have to lay out your bowling strategy for the up coming season. Do you need a new custom bowling ball? How about a pair of new bowling shoes? Maybe a new wrist support or bowling glove? Then again, if you’re a early bird, be one of the first to order custom bowling shirts for the team? Or, find a bowling team sponsor?
What ever your bowling needs, this is the time to get organized. Check through your bowling gear, and see what can be repaired, cleaned, or replaced. For example, when was the last time you gave the bowling balls a really good cleaning? Or maybe you have a bowling ball in need of resurfacing or reconditioning. Check your finger grips or finger holes for excessive dirt build up, or needed repairs, like chips or cracks around the finger holes. How about your bowling shoes, need repairs, replacing, or just some polish? Don’t forget your bowling glove and wrist support, if they are in need of repairs or replacing? And, can the bowling shirts make it through one more season?
Why am I bring this up now? Well, you have time on your side, and this is bargain time for buying bowling gear. Bowling balls, bowling supplies, bowling bags, bowling shoes, and even bowling shirts are discounted during the off season. So, if you wanted to replace any of your bowling gear, now is the time to look around for deals. Because the prices will go up around the first of August, just in time for Fall Bowling League? Imagine that?
Graphicly Designed Bowling Balls-Worth It?
First, what are you going to use this custom bowling ball for? If you are a child starting out, this plastic bowling ball can be a good starter ball. If you are looking for a second bowling ball for spares, especially 7 or 10 pins, this ball would work. Plus the colorful graphics, adds color to your Game, and your buddies comments.
But my bowling tip is, how much is a custom colored bowling ball worth? Remember, any plastic bowling ball will do the job. So, what you are basically paying for? It is the graphic design. Therefore, the cost difference is, how important the graphic design is to you? If you want to make a statement, or have something different than the other bowlers? I can see justifying the cost difference, just like a different style bowling shirt than the other bowlers. If you are making a statement, just remember to pick a bowling ball, you can live with for awhile. After the novelty wears off, will you still respect it?
Using Lane Oil in Your Strategy?
Lately a discussion has arose about using lane oil conditions to your advantage. As many have noticed, Norm Duke, Walter Ray Williams Jr., and to a lesser extent Chris Barnes, are using the far right line to start with. Then as the line burns up, switch to a more inside line or shot. Of course burn up line, means the line is too dry to use.
So by moving more inside, the new line will be further left. Then when the bowling ball hits the burn up line, the traction increases the bowling ball’s hooking ability. This is the main reason not to start far left in the beginning. If you start far left and burn up your line, where do you go? To the right? Maybe not, because the right side can be burned up too, with the wide arcing action of the earlier bowling balls. That is why, power crankers get frustrated toward the end of the second Game. They can’t keep the bowling ball in the pocket, or called “Hooking out of the house” problem.
Another bowling technique is to use an oilier lane custom bowling ball first, that is more straight up the lane. Because, the first Game has the oiliest lanes of the three Games in league. Then as the line burns up adjust to the left as far as that bowling ball can handle. After that bowling ball, go with your medium oil or dry lane custom bowling ball to finest out the night. In this way you usually have another custom bowling ball ready for the drying out lane conditions. Remember not to burn out your line early, so you have a back up strategy left to use. Keep thinking and analyzing the lane conditions, so you can keep the upper hand!
X Outs – X Blems: Good Discounted Bowling Balls?
If you are like me, I am always looking for a good discount bowling ball . Once you find a bowling ball you like, you start searching for a good deal. Now of course being off season, is one of the best times to buy a bowling ball, as mentioned in previous blogs. But, X-Outs and X-Blems are different. These bowling balls have a flaw or defect some where. This flaw will not affect the bowling ball’s performance, I am told. Now in the X-Comps, the Pin distance is in the 2-4” only range with the top weight 2-4 ounce range, and the X-Blems, X-Out or Seconds are out of this range.
X-Comps generally have a cosmetic blemish. The reaction of the ball will be the same as a 1st line quality ball.
A bowling ball is labeled an X-Blem, X-Out, or Second for any one of the following reasons: 1. color, 2. small pitting caused by air bubbles, 3. unique pin placement, top weight, or mass bias marking location, 4. labels are engraved in unusual places or may have the wrong logos, 5. swirl patterns of the ball are not consistent, 6. engravings such as the serial numbers, cg location markers or logos may be stamped on the ball more than once or in the wrong place. And in most cases, the flaw or defect information isn’t given. Therefore, buy at your own risk, and have a professional drill your bowling ball, so any performance flaws can be caught in time. Some dealers have the policy of all sales are final and no refunds too. So be careful, who you buy from.
I have bought X-Out bowling balls with some success. One bowling ball gave the driller a hard time, but finally, we compromised on a drilling pattern. The bowling tip is, a 1st Line discounted bowling ball is a better deal, than a few dollars cheaper, chance on a Second Line bowling ball. Good dealing, and make sure you know what you are buying.
Crazy Looking Plastic Bowling Balls.
You want to really mess up your friends? Get one of these eye catchers. Your friends will go nuts every time you use these plastic bowling balls. But these bowling balls may mess with your Game too? If you start watching the bowling ball, and not your mark, you may be in trouble.
Kids bowling balls can be used as a spare ball. But, maybe optical dizziness is another way to get the edge on your friends. Please, let me know if it works?
Buy Cheap Bowling Balls Now.
This is the off season and the best time to buy last season’s bowling balls. For example, Ebonite Mission bowling ball is listed $100+ off now. Kelly Kulick, first women to win Professional Bowlers Association Tournament, which was The Tournament of Champions 1-24-2010, made the Mission famous. She used the Mission bowling ball to power her way through 2009-2010 season.
So if your looking, it is a good time to buy for next season. Plus, ask your friends, if they bought a bowling ball last season, how did they like it? That way, you will have more input on which bowling ball to buy. I’m not pushing the Mission, even though it has received high ratings from users, but as a bowling tip, of the deals that are out there. Good dealing!
