Why Do I Need Bowling Shoes?

Thursday, July 8, 2010 @ 01:07 AM

bowling shoesI have heard mothers say, “Why do my kids need bowling shoes?” Even adults ask this question, after seeing the attendant walking around with their street shoes on oiling the lanes. Or after watching the attendant walk down the side of the  lane, to remove a pin or bowling ball with street shoes on. I can see the problem.

Remember, the attendant isn’t sliding on the lanes approaches, like a bowler will. Also, they might fall down working around in bowling shoes, especially on the lanes. But the main reason for bowling shoes, is to slide on the approach without damaging the lanes. Now back at one time, Pete Weber, a Professional Bowler, wore tennis shoes on the PBA Tour to improve his traction. The tennis shoes where only used for bowling, and not worn outside the bowler centers. During that time, bowling centers allowed that, if the shoes were only used for bowling. But I haven’t seen it lately, and I think because too many bowlers abused the privilege. Just image checking everyone’s shoes, to see if they have dirt on them, before you can bowl? Then who is to say, someone can go outside and slip back in to bowl? The bowling lanes are expensive to maintain as it is now, so I can see the precautions. Also, the bowling center is responsible for any accidents on the premises. Besides, how can the bowling center rent bowling shoes over and over again, if everyone brought their own shoes?

As a parting bowling tip, there are basically 2 types of bowling shoes designs, right or left handed, and the universal. With the universal, like the bowling center bowling shoes, both shoes slide, so if you are right or left handed bowler, it doesn’t make any difference. Please check out some of my previous posts, for more information on the new innovations in bowling shoes. Have fun bowling, but be safe too. Enjoy bowling with friends, and let the conversations roll on.

What are Unisex Universal Bowling Shoes?

Bowling ShoesThese bowling shoes are one of the most cost effective choices to “House Shoes”, for the casual bowler. Discounted currently as much as 40%, it doesn’t take much math, to figure out the benefits of buying your own bowling shoes. With the discount, these are also the one of the cheapest bowling shoes around. But why are they so cheap?

Well one reason is the bowling soles are like “House Shoes”, universal. If you are right handed or left handed, it doesn’t matter, because the bowling soles are the same, they both slide. Another reason is the same style of shoe is made for men and women, which is more cost effective. Also, it benefits couples and mixed teams, who want to match and coordinate their team colors. Of course, I’m not pushing this idea! Then again, the draw back is, you do slide more at the line, as compared to the more expensive bowling shoes. But, these are colorful bowling shoes. Some of the colors are white/black, green/black, pink/black, blue/black, pink/white, yellow/black, orange/black, and just black/black or white/white for the less colorful bowlers.

So in this economy, if you want to save some money? The unisex universal bowling shoes maybe a place to start. Just watch your slide!

Bowling GearIf you are on a bowling league, the summertime  is the off season for the majority of bowlers and their bowling gear. It’s like going to school, you’re off during the summer. So what do you do? Well some of my bowling buddies are golfing, motorcycling, boating at the lake, or on vacation. But if you’re a dedicated bowler, you’re thinking Fall League start up!

First you have to lay out your bowling strategy for the up coming season. Do you need a new custom bowling ball? How about a pair of new bowling shoes? Maybe a new wrist support or bowling glove? Then again, if you’re a early bird, be one of the first to order custom bowling shirts for the team? Or, find a bowling team sponsor?

What ever your bowling needs, this is the time to get organized. Check through your bowling gear, and see what can be repaired, cleaned, or replaced. For example, when was the last time you gave the bowling balls a really good cleaning? Or maybe you have a bowling ball in need of resurfacing or reconditioning. Check your finger grips or finger holes for excessive dirt build up, or needed repairs, like chips or cracks  around the finger holes. How about your bowling shoes, need repairs, replacing, or just some polish? Don’t forget your bowling glove and wrist support, if they are in need of repairs or replacing? And, can the bowling shirts make it through one more season?

Why am I bring this up now? Well, you have time on your side, and this is bargain time for buying bowling gear. Bowling balls, bowling supplies, bowling bags, bowling shoes, and even bowling shirts are discounted during the off season. So, if you wanted to replace any of your bowling gear, now is the time to look around for deals. Because the prices will go up around the first of August, just in time for Fall Bowling League? Imagine that?

It’s called, universal bowling shoes? The Dexter bowling shoe can be switched from a right handed bowler, to a left handed bowler by just changing soles? So, if a bowler injured his or her right hand, they could start bowling left handed, without buying left handed bowling shoes? Well, I think, I like it.  And of course, bowling shoe covers are included. A leather toe drag protector that stops slide sole peel back is a nice addition too.

This Dexter universal bowling shoe design is available for men, women, and youth bowlers. Matter a fact, Kelly Kulick, who won the PBA Tournament of Champions, was wearing the above bowling shoes. What will they think up next?

Bowling Shoes with Replacable Heels and Shoe Pads.

Dexter bowling shoes pioneered the concept many years ago,  and it is still going strong. Because the shoes last so long, the soles and heels can be replaced, so no need for repairs or shoe replacement. The easy replacements just stick on a Velcro shoe pad.

Bowlers can slide longer or shorter by just changing the heel and sole pad combination. A chart gives all the information on the various combinations. By changing the combination, bowlers can adjust to the type of delivery they want and change back again, as fast as tearing one pad off and sticking on another. Don’t you love technology, when it works?

Why Do We Need Bowling Shoes?

Working-4-A-Turkey

Whenever I go to the bowling alley, I expect to shell out some dough. Not only do I have to pay for a lane, but I also have to pay to use some shoes that countless other feet have already occupied. This got me to thinking—why do we have to wear bowling shoes in the first place?

While bowling shoes will give you more slide, the primary purpose it to protect the lanes. The lanes have a finish on them that can—and will—be damaged by ordinary street shoes. If you are like me and are tired of paying for rentals, consider investing in your own pair of bowling shoes.
